DVD One-Shot Questionnaire

The benefits of DVD.

I chose the picture is better..,

I recently got the Japanese DVD release of an OAV that originally came out in 1985..., the tapes that I have of Tatakae!! Iczer-1, even though they are the original US Rendition's release, are of rather poor quality.., lots of 'snow'.., & blurred images.., the *cough*fansub*cough* of the movie version of the OAV is even worse.., with scenes which jump like crazy..., these defects are amplified to an even greater degree on a 50 inch TV screen...,

The DVD that I got though, has been re-mastered..., & I was completely blown away by how much cleaner, & clearer the picture quality was..., it was like watching a new anime all over again..., so that's why picture quality gets my vote..., :D

picture is better. most of the time, the fansubs i watch are really crappy so its nice to be able to see the crisp picture.

Throws better, never has a game of frisbee been so much until the DVD was invented go DVD!

Well to be honest, my answer wasn't there. Yes I buy DVD's because of a lot of reasons listed, but mostly, because they are the "In Thing". Now I brought The Three Amigos on DVD and the only extra it had was a stupid trailer. And I owned it on tape beforehand. I just brought it on DVD because I like the movie. There is no real reason behind it, but there is one thing for sure, I'm blowing my bank balance because of them.

So hard to choose, there are many benefits from DVDs but Id pick Picture quality

I voted better video too. Though the Sounds a BIG factor too :kisses 5.1 setup:

Another big one is longevity, DVDs are harder to degrade (Well other than scratches) therefore they last longer. I mean my VHS tapes degrade fast in the Aussie Summer, DVDs I don't have that problem

Picture for me. VHS will be dead within 1-2 years anyway. Good riddance I say!

oppa 06-11-2002 07:12 AM

Dang, I was the only vote for the sound. I'm all about the audio when I watch my DVDs. Picture smicture, gimme some head thumpin', ear tinglin' sound any day.

edit: I just realized this thread is a month old and no one posted in it since it was first started. Oh well... (I suppose there really wasn't any point to that edit... bah.)

Subs for me.

Well, really, we only got our DVD player for karaoke :heh: so technically we got our DVD for subs, but I've been buying anime since then

the piccies are heaps better, also sounds better and you dont have waste time rewinding the tapes hehe

Stingray 67 28-11-2002 01:22 AM

I buy DVD's for all these reasons, save the throwing bit, but mostly because I'm sick of having to search for what I want to watch on VHS. I remember I would be listenning to a CD, and thinking 'I can't wait til Vdeo CD's come out,' simply because it wouldn't matter what you wanted to watch/listen to, press a button and BAM! you're there, in a flash and dead on.

Actually, a lot of reasons. The picture is better, the sound is better, the dvd lasts longer than vhs does if you take good care of it, no need to rewind the tape or fast-forward to get where you want to be, and sometimes they actually have good extras.

But my main reason is the subtitle options. I really prefer overall to watch anime subbed, but I still like to check out the dubbed side sometimes and see how that plays out. Dvds give you the best of both worlds. :)

well i picked they throw better (witch they do) but thats not the real reason i buy DvDs, DvDs r harder to burn than VHS and when my room goes Ablaze (like it dose once or twice a month when i get bored) i have a better chance to save me DvDs (i set my VHS's on fire and throw them at ppl BWA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH............................ .............................the moment has passed -.- )
