Serial Experiments: Lain Eps 1-13: I've had this sat on my shelf for years, & this was my third attempt at watching this series all the way through. I kept giving up after episode 2 because it just wasn't all that interesting to me at the time. Wish I had persevered with it now though, as I enjoyed the series a great deal. Very trippy show, a real brain bender.

I refuse to watch the subpar bleach fillers because the next manga arc is awesome

Fruits Basket Eps 1-26 : This was random a suggestion from another forum member. I knew nothing about the show, so I was very pleasantly surprised by the series. Reminded me a lot of Ranma 1/2 & Shoujo Kakumei Utena, but it's not as pointless or as vapid as the former, & not as surreal as the latter (though I did have a double-take when Yuki Soma first appeared; he looked a lot like Miki out of Utena, & then it turned out that both characters shared the same voice actress too). The show is very silly in places, but overall there is a melancholy feel to the plot; I found myself laughing my ass off one minute, then finding a lump in my throat the next. A very charming character driven series.

Neo Ranga Eps 1-48 : I picked up this title coz it was cheap. It starts off with three sisters inheriting a mecha (of sorts), & an island kingdom that happens to believe that the mecha is a god. A very odd series, that can't seem to make it's mind up on what kind of show it wants to be; deals with religious themes, politics, giant robots, monsters, ecchi, comedy, drama, aliens from outer space, etc. Because of this, the storyline meanders all over the place & as a whole the series suffers from this lack of coherent plot. The ending left a few plot holes unexplained as well. It's not a bad series by any means, but the fact that the plot went from one extreme to another was rather trying IMO.
Oh, even though it's a 48 episode long series, it's not actually as long as you think, as each episode is only 15 minutes long.

Just finished Paranoia Agent (and posted a thread about it), still working on Yu Yu Hakasho, and about to get newly released discs of Samurai 7 and Gilgamesh from Netflix.

Trying to decide what as-yet-unseen series to start now

Geneshaft Eps 1-13 : A garbled sci-fi show that has elements from various anime, & the movies Logan's Run & GATTACA. An interesting premise that is spoiled by poor direction. There's very little suspense, the characters are hum-drum, & the plot is full of holes. The chara designs are cool, if generic looking, but the character development doesn't flow very well. And the show boasts the ugliest mecha design I've ever seen in an anime. Yuck!!! Loads of pointless CGI too; they should have used the money they spent on that on better script writers. I couldn't wait for this series to finish so that I could go onto another show that's more interesting.

Well, I recently bought Evangelion platinum edition box set, so I'm pretty much enjoying the classic all over again. Otherwise it's been a while since I saw any new anime. Last one was Miyazaki's Moving Castle.(is that the correct english title?)

Sakura Wars TV Eps 1-25: I saw this show years ago on *cough*fansub*cough*, & it wasn't till recently that I managed to get hold of the US DVD release. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this series. It's cheesy & cliche, but the characters are endearing, it's all in good fun & it puts a smile on my face.
I'm gonna watch Sakura Wars The Movie next.

Now & Then, Here & There Eps 1-13 : Another show I knew nowt about before buying. The chara designs are simplistic & child-like, but this is not representitive of the show itself. The storyline is hard-hitting right from the start, where the hero (a teenaged Japanese kendo student) of the tale gets transported to a world he knows nothing about & where his own values on life mean nothing. It is extremely depressing; there is no comedy, no light relief, just a pulls-no-punches war story that is amazingly well told. It is a very sad & in places, horrifying tale, that deals with a lot themes that some may find upsetting (some of the implied scenes made me physically ill).
An awesome thought-provoking anime, the story-telling is great, building up the tension episode after episode. Well worth watching IMO.
