GitS:SAC 2nd Gig Eps 24-26: Finally, the last DVD arrived in the post yesterday. All-in-all, I enjoyed 2nd Gig a lot more than the first series; the plot was very convoluted, but I think it was resolved far more satisfactorily. I'll have to sit down & watch both seasons back-to-back now. And I can't wait for Solid State Society. ^_^

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor- I must say that Tylor is the luckiest man in the damn universe!! His luck is unparallel! Just absolute ridiculousness! It seems like he's always two steps ahead of everyone else. Never loses his cool or anything. He's truly an unbreakable man. Just wondering if anyone else whom has seen this share some of my feelings?

P.S. I thought I would add a little more to what I've said. I'm watching the OVA now and....it's just reached pure obsurdness. It's like he's bending the universe as he sees fit. It's almost too much for me to handle as it's so unrealistic (I realize the irony here) but it begs the question, can a person really have THAT much luck?

Shakugan no Shana Eps 1-4: Not totally sure what to make of this series; the first two episodes are quite serious & rather sad, then it becomes a comedy of sorts. Hmm, it's still early days yet so I shall persevere.

And I'm re-watching Strawberry Panic! again; I'm obsessed with this series at the mo.

Shamanic Princess Eps 1-6: An odd, rather PWP OAV series. The story is rather disjointed, not helped by the fact that the last two episodes are the prelude to the first four (why not just put them at the beginning in the first place?). I liked the show though, the silly magic battles & very pretty animation & chara designs making up for the vagueness of the plot. And for only US$6 for the R1 DVD, it was a bargain to boot.

Just saw ... Basilisk and Negima volume 2 ... both not bad, especially Negima (if you liked Love Hina ... its very similar in style and intent).

Najica: Blitz Tactics Eps 1-12 : A very, very silly show, with fan service galore; the number of panty shots was mind boggling, I reckon there was one at least every 10-20 seconds. The plot is thin (to be expected really), as is the character development which is a pity as this could have been a more interesting series. As it was, I had real trouble taking this show seriously at all, primarily because I couldn't stop laughing at the number of ways the animators tried to get panty shots into every single scene.

It's pretty good, huh? It's too bad that it's unfinished but the storyline so far was outstanding.

Right now, I enjoy watching Kodacha, Baki the Grappler, and Kiddy Grade on the FUNimation channel every day!

Figure 17 Eps 1-13: Shy & introverted 10 year old Tsubasa moves from Tokyo to rural Hokkaido with her father after the death of her mother. Unable to make friends, she's lonely & feels isolated, but this changes one night when an alien space craft crashes near her home, & through a freak accident with an alien artifact, she gains a twin/clone who names herself Hikaru; when the 'twins' combine, they become the fighting entity known as Figure 17.

Even though the show is ostensibly touted as a sci-fi series, the sci-fi elements are put on the back burner for the most part, as the series focuses on the relationship between Tsubasa & Hikaru. Whereas Tsubasa is shy, Hikaru is lively & outgoing, everything that Tsubasa wishes she could be like herself. The series is rather slow going, exacerbated by the fact that each episode runs for 45 minutes, instead of the usual 25, but I feel that this has been purposefully done, in order to convey the 'sleepiness' of rural Hokkaido when compared to the busy & hectic city of Tokyo. It's more of a slice of life/drama anime, showing a young girl's coming of age; the sci-fi elements are there just to propel the story along.

I really enjoyed the series, though the ending brought a tear to my eye. Yes, I know I'm a soppy sod.

Ikki Tousen aka Battle Vixens Eps 1-13: This is probably one of the dumbest series I've seen in a long time. Fanservice, fighting, fanservice, more fighting, & yet more fanservice held together by an extremely flimsy plot, though PWP would probably be more apt (I don't understand why they used Chinese history for the plot). As for character development, it's minimal at best (not that much of a surprise really). The only thing that saves this show in my eyes in the main character Hakufu, primarily because her blatant stupidity made me laugh loads. Other than that, this show is very vapid.
