Eva Girls On The Beach

I was handed some line art a day or two ago, and was told to colour it in just to test my skills. The limitation? NO BLENDED COLOURING. Any statements or opinions as to what could improve the picture?

Also a link to a shmick coloured-line version. I love being a photoshop filter-whore. ^^

I'm very impressed by your celshading skills. I remember when I first tried my hand at it I gave up shorty after.

First of all, there's something that really bothers me: The top left corner. What's that supposed to be, sun light? It looks like this lightsource is set two feet away from them, and I'd only expect that much brightness at night. When I examined the top left of the picture, my attention is shifted to this element, so it steals attention from Rei's head.

Another thing, the oily looks of the skin is okay I guess, considering they're at the beach, they might be wearing some sunscreen lotion or something XD;. I guess if you want the skin to look less shiny you could reduce the visibility of the brightest skin color a little. I'd look a bit flat, but you'll manage.

Geez, I don't know what to say, I think you did really good on this! I can't find any areas that require any improvement of any sort, your coloring is fantastic.

WOW! That is excellent. I would lose the sunflare in the upper left corner, but otherwise you did a fantastic job!

Nice job! ... although, I can see how you would be itching to apply blends and surface textures ... the line art is just screaming to push the envelope into the twilight zone of surreal anime media.

Maybe I should have made that clearer..

I mean may I take a crack at shaded coloring i.e. non-cell shading.

Of course. That's what I started doing originally, then thought to have a crack at cell.

Then I saw House for the first time, and have been watching the first season ever since. ^^;

But still. Here's the line art that I worked with. Better grab it before ImageShack ceases hosting it.

I know it's been a long time, but I got pretty busy for a while and then didn't have access to my computer for about a month.. but just recently I went back to this drawing and starting coloring. It's still not finished, but here's taste for now..

So far, the only thing I have completed is Rei and I'm working on PenPen right now.

Photoshop really is easy to use, once the initial intimidation wears off.

When I first started using it, I almost broke my mouse from hitting it against the table. I mean, layers? ----, man. Who the ---- is going to make use of them?

Now I could be guilty of being a "layer-whore", if such a thing existed. >_>

I try to keep down the number of layers although I do have one ongoing project that has over 200 layers so far. It's a bitch trying to remember what's on all of them.
