if you ever tried Perl, you'd know. if not;

$_SERVER['whatever'] is the environment variable. there are others, but let's not get into that. just replace whatever for desired environment variable you want.

REMOTE_ADDR would be the remote address, that is the IP of the visitor.
HTTP_REFERER would be where the client came from (e.g. another site, blank if none)
PHP_SELF is name of the file being executed at the time
and what you want which is
QUERY_STRING, which i believe is anything after your ? at the end of the browser thing

yes, such as p=23 or 235 works too. just that it'll eventually get complicated and annoying. unless of course you're using a DB of sort and those numbers actually mean something to the computer, and you can look it up easily too.

[edit] i personally use environment variables for logging on who came into my site and whatnot. quite handy i say.

If you want to design you website easily, you should use CMS.
With the help of CMS you can design you website very fast with full security.
The only you need to learn is to select functionality that you want.
